Would it be dangerous to make candles in cups of coffee?
I was going to make some candles. I'm out of molds and such and I was thinking just pour the wax in a few cups of age. All cups are glass and some are vintage. I wondered if the flame would be dangerous in the cup? I am sure that the flame is not hot enough to melt the enamel or anything, but I thought I would ask anyway. Thanks!
It is perfectly safe – the cups are fired at temperatures much higher than the candle flame to create. The disadvantage of using ceramic cups or other solid container candles is not going to get as much light sailing, because it can not shine through the sides of the container as you can through the glass, but still has some light, in addition to any scent you've added. The problem may run into is that if the sides of the cup or curve much more inclined to be pretty easy up and down, is difficult to choose a wick that is burned and the wider than the candle as its narrowest part, so you might experience problems with the smoking wick or drowning. Other containers that could be consider using small cans thoroughly washed (with paper labels removed) of cat food, tuna, olives, chopped or sliced mushrooms – just make sure the wick is the right size for the container. Never use plastic containers unless you really know what you are doing – which can cause a fire or create toxic gases. If you have sand available, is also a good time to look in sand in a few candles.
