What’s a Roomba?
Roombas are robotic vacuum cleaners. Yes, welcome to the new millennium. Think of how many of our ancestors thought that by this time we would have robots to handle all of our basic needs and yet the thought of a robotic vacuum cleaner still amazes many people. What is most amazing is that many people have not yet heard of the Roomba and that they are missing out on the potential benefits of this amazing robotic vacuum!
The Roomba is small, circular, and low to the ground. It travels around your floors picking up everything that your standard vacuum cleaner would. The difference is that this allows you to sit back and relax. No, you don’t need to break your back moving the couch to get behind it because the Roomba easily slides underneath.
There are several different models and generations of Roombas to choose from. Each has its own special functions and obviously the newer and more expensive models are going to have more desirable functions.
The basic premise of the Roomba is that it can vacuum your room all on its own. Certain models need to be programmed with the size of the room. Every Roomba has an infrared sensor that will keep it from bumping into your furniture and walls. This is wonderful because who wants their antique coffee table dented by a robotic vacuum? Another great feature is that it can be programmed to run during specific times of the day. This means that the Roomba can vacuum your house every day while you are at work and then you don’t have to worry about it.
These devices run on batteries that need to be recharged. The older models need to be plugged into the wall manually. The newer models can be programmed to return to their base on their own. The battery life is generally twelve hours. This may seem like a pain, like who always remembers to put the cordless phone back on the base, but it is a trade-off when it comes to saving time from not having to vacuum yourself.
Another reason that some people scoff at the Roomba is the fact that you have to consistently empty the bin where all of the debris goes. Obviously, since the vacuum is so small, this bin cannot be very large. However, with the ability to use a robotic vacuum on a regular basis, there will be less and less dirt for the Roomba to pick up which in turn makes it less necessary to empty the bin as often. Just remember that every vacuum needs to be emptied at some point, whether it is with a bag, a canister, or a small bin in a robotic vacuum.
It is entirely up to the individual whether the Roomba is right for their home. It seems that this handy robotic tool will help lessen your workload and that is helpful to everyone!
