Immerse Yourself In A Cup Of Rare, Exotic Tea
We in the west may not have as long a tradition of tea drinking, or as formal an attitude toward it, but we certainly love a cuppa. And these days, we’re becoming more adventurous in our choices of tea. No longer do we restrict ourselves to black teas, such as Darjeeling, English Breakfast and Earl Grey; we’re branching out to rare teas, green teas, fruit teas, and flower teas as well. Green and fruit teas can make a truly refreshing change, and are great at sipping on hot days to help the body feel cool and hydrated.
Some of the truly rare teas are only harvested on a few days of the growing year, and yet they are not as expensive as you might think! Among the most exotic teas you can buy are flowering, or blooming teas. These are hand tied combinations of exotic tea leaves and flowers, which open out in the teapot while brewing, and they can be a marvelous talking point at dinner parties (or, indeed, tea parties!).
If you don’t already have one, splash out on a glass teapot for the best experience in flowering exotic teas; this way you can watch while the flower petals and leaves gently open inside the teapot as the hot water hydrates them and releases their delicate flavors and aromas. One way to truly impress your family and friends! Glass teapots come in many shapes and sizes, suitable for small or large groups, or even for one person. The best in terms of heat retention are those with a double wall; these work a little like an old-fashioned thermos flask, with the gap between the two layers acting as insulation and keeping the heat in the inner container. Thus the tea remains hot while brewing, and for a good while afterwards, giving you the best possible chance to enjoy the freshly brewed tea at its optimum. Some of the more exciting rare teas in terms of taste and scent are those with amaranth or chrysanthemum flowers, and many are combined with silver needle tea leaves and various fruit berries as well as flowers, for added fragrant flavor.
If you haven’t tried rare teas or exotic teas before, a good way to start is with a selection box; The Exotic Teapot makes a number of these with a variety of fabulous fruity exotic tea combinations, at a very reasonable price, and can be a great starting point. You could even throw a ‘rare tea’ party, and introduce your friends and family to the idea at the same time; treat it like a liquor tasting, and try small amounts of each tea in succession, cleansing the palate in between with cold water so as not to confuse the taste buds. Rare teas make great gifts as well, and often come packaged in stylish boxes and tins that are sure to please the recipient. And, if you are lucky, they might even invite you round to sample their new teas with them!
