How do I keep my dog out of the littler box?

Ok, I have a little tea cup Yorkie, she is almost 12 years old. She has never really been around cats or little boxes till I moved in with my fiancé last year. The cats little box is in a little room we built behind a bedroom door, so it is well hidden. Well, she found it! She likes to go in there and either eat the kitty poop, or just bring it out and leaves it under our bed or by the bed. When we catch her, we yell at her and spank her. (not hard) We kennel her during the day when we are gone, because she gets in it while we are gone. Well, now she does it when we are home!
How can we keep her out of the litter box!!!???!!!

Put it up somewhere really high. Cats can jump high,climb walls, etc. Your Yorkie cannot get to it unless she can fly.

Yelling and spanking don’t work. That just tells your dog not to do it in front of you, but behind your back is okay.
