Brewing loose tea: do I NEED the teapot, or can I just use a mug and infuser?

I already use the teapot, but it’s a lot of work. I figure using something like this in a mug would be a lot easier:

But, I’m concerned it’d affect the quality of the brew if the tea doesn’t get to expand as much as it would in a normal pot infuser. Will my tea taste the same or be completely different? Will I get the same health benefits?

Thank you!

You really don’t need a teapot. A mug or teacup works just fine. And you don’t need anything quite as fancy as you’ve shown. A basic infuser like a the mesh ball (can be found almost anywhere) is just fine. The hint I was given by my English mother is that you should never stuff the mesh ball completely full. Give the tea room to expand so the flavors will develop in your tea.

As for the taste and the health benefits, they would be the same. Enjoy your tea!
