Iced green tea without ice?
I like iced tea, but it has to be sweetened. The trouble is, when I add sugar to hot brewed tea, the sugar doesn’t blend WITH the tea and I end up tasting the tea and the sugar separately. I have decided to try 100% pure honey. Here’s a recipe I have come up with using green tea bags. Tell me what you think.
Boil 2 quarts of water
Remove from heat and let stand 5 minutes
Add 8 tea bags and steep for 2 minutes
Remove tea bags and whisk in 1/4 cup pure honey while still warm
Pour into pitcher and refrigerate until cold (I do not like ice in my tea as it becomes watery)
Any suggestions? Should I use more honey?
Thanks, Blues
It really depends on how sweet you want it. There’s no reason that the sugar shouldn’t be blending in especially if the tea is hot. The only thing it could be is that you’re overloading the tea with sugar. You can only dissolve so much sugar in a certain amount of liquid before the liquid becomes saturated and can’t dissolve.
Here’s what we do when we make iced tea from bags…boil the water in a pot, add the sugar once the water boils and the tea bags…for two quarts you probably only need 5 or 6 not eight unless the teabags are old and a bit dried out. Turn the heat off and let steep 2 to 5 minutes depending on how strong you like it.
Let the tea come to room temp before you put it in the fridge.
If you like you can make some extra and pour it into ice cube trays to freeze and then your tea won’t become watery.
