What is up with Freeze-dried coffee?

Why does Folders instant coffee (freeze-dried) taste so nasty? Who (besides me) is buying and drinking this putrid tasting coffee, and why?

Coffee tastes terrible after it’s gone stale & it doesn’t get any more stale tasting than reconstituted freeze-dried coffee.

The people who like it are the same ones that think McDonald’s is gourmet food and Taco Bell is authentic Mexican fare.

If it’s not fresh, I’ll stick to water.
