Can I use a baking tin in my crock pot?
I have a 4 qt oval crock pot. They don’t make the baking inserts anymore and my crock pot is too small for the ones Rival used to make. I have seen some recipes that use baking tins and some say use a 2 lb coffee can. I don’t drink coffee, so I would have to go out of my way for a 2lb coffee can. So, if a recipe says put it in a coffee can, can I put it in a baking tin anyways?
yes, you can use whatever container will fit: other types of food cans, gelatin molds, etc.
you just need a tin or can that is large enough to hold your batter & still fit into the crock.
if you’re making something like bread pudding, then I’d just butter up the crock and put it in directly but if you’re trying to make cornbread or a cake then I’d go w/ the baking tins or food/coffee cans.
not many people bake in the crock pot any more and that’s why the baking inserts are no longer made.
