Tea high quality tea
Earl Grey Tea is a high quality tea made from the rind of a citrus fruit typical to Southeast Asia. This fruit is called bergamot and its oil is used not only in Earl Grey Tea but in confectionery items such as chocolates, cakes and flavored syrups. Earl Grey is a term that was once very specific to only tea but is now widely used for nearly any product containing the oil of bergamot.
Where did Earl Grey Tea get its name? This fabulous tea has a rich history behind it. Though the following story is not based in fact, it is a nice tale of how Earl Grey Tea came to find its name.
In the early 1800s, the second Earl Grey, a British Prime Minister, was reportedly receiving gifts of teas flavored with oil of bergamot. These gifts were considered to be part of a diplomatic perquisite. In addition, one of Earl Grey’s men saved a Chinese mandarin’s son in 1803. As a thank you gift, the Chinese mandarin offered Earl Grey oil of bergamot tea.
Though bergamot was not specific to China at that time, this sweet little story is told when people inquire about this tasty tea’s name of Earl Grey.
Earl Grey Tea comes in many varieties such as:
- Breakfast
- Darjeeling
- De la crème
- Decaffeinated
- Green
- Honeybrush
- Lavender
- Mint
- Oolong
- Organic
- Pu Erh

Tea for the Tillerman $6.33 Cat Stevens tends to be lumped in with the early-’70s singer-songwriter school led by James Taylor and Carole King, but he actually fits in rather neatly with such wistful English contemporaries as Nick Drake, Syd Barrett, and Donovan. Tea for the Tillerman’s “Wild World,” “Into White,” and “Longer Boats” indicate that he may have been a more gifted tunesmith than the lot of them. As with the best… |
