How do I clean my stainless steel coffee cup?

I have a portable coffee cup that I love, but it is beginning to smell like mildew. Yuck! It makes my morning cup of tea not so pleasurable. Anyone have any suggestions on how to clean it? I tried soap and water, but the soap smell just mixed with the mildew smell.

I assume this must be a covered cup that you can’t reach inside very easily to clean out. If you want a method that doesn’t use harsh or poisonous chemicals then take a handful of sand, regular old sand from a beach or sand box. add some water, close the cup. and shake vigorously for a minute. Then rinse it out. You can follow up with soap and water if your not comfortable about the idea of outdoor sand, but it’s really not necessary especially since you seem to be mostly ok with drinking out of a cup with mildew. I actually appreciate the fact that you do.
