Painting in ceramic mugs?

My employer has asked me to design some portable coffee mugs to sell at work. I was wondering what type of paint and varnish should be used to make them as durable as possible? They are the mugs that look sort of like the take-out mugs with the rubber tops and ceramic cup.

Designing mugs and hand painting the mugs one at a time are two things. You can design them on paper for the printer that makes the mugs by the dozen They take your design and print in some way the mugs.Measure the height of the mug and the circumference to find out the length of your design. Lightly draw the rectangle for guide lines( be sure they are light if you do not want them to show in the final design. Do your art and present it to your boss.
