MATH: Tearing paper 50 times..how high will it be?
Ok if you got a single piece of Standard paper (250 sheets = 1 inch) and you folded and tore it 50 times how high would it be????
the height is bigger then statue of liberty, and longer then the miles it would take to get from here to mars!!! PLEASE HELP AND EXPLAIN YOUR ANSWER!!!!
I think I remember this answer:
The individual sheets are 1/250 inch thick right?
So every time you fold it you double the thickness so you start with 1/250 then fold it once and get 2/250 and fold it again and get 4/250 and so on.
Basically you’re doubling the top of the fraction each time like this:
1 fold = 2/250
2 folds = 4/250
3 folds = 8/250
4 folds = 16/250
5 folds = 32/250
50 folds = 1,125,899,906,842,624/250 which equals
4,503,599,627,370.496 inches which equals
375,299,968,947.541 feet which equals
71,079,539.573 miles give or take
