paper coffee filters 4 cup
Why does my coffee taste like shit?

I put 4 tbsp of ground coffee into the filter this morning, had 4 cups of water in, added a bunch of creamer, and it still tasted really watered down.

Tips anyone?

(I’m using paper filters)

Hi,

After working at a coffee shop years ago learned a lot about the problem you are having. Here are some things you can do to see if one or a couple things will give you better results in brewing your coffee.

Start out with a very clean coffee maker. Take it apart the whole thing and wash it with white vinegar and hot water then rinse it very well put it back together.

If your city water has an unpleasant scent to it try using bottled water to see if this makes a difference.

Try using natural filters instead of bleached.

Measuring accurately the water to the coffee you need is most important and some like it stronger than others.

At this time I’m using the store brand at Walmart Great Value French roast. It calls for 1 tablespoon per 6 ounces of water. I compared that to my little coffee scoop and it is exactly the same amount. We use a heaping tablespoon of coffee we like a stronger strength. So my old Mr Coffee holds 12 cups and I use 5 heaping tablespoons of ground coffee.

It’s great if you can grind your beans fresh every time you make a pot of coffee this will give you better results too. You can buy a small electric grinder very cheap these days at most discount stores.

The temperature of the water going over the grounds in the coffee maker is most important it must be hot enough to make a good brewed pot of coffee. Make sure that is not one of your problems.

After your coffee is brewed do not let it set in the carafe (pot) for a long time it will have a burnt flavor the longer it remains on the burner. This is one reason the newer coffee makers have a vacuum carafe that holds the coffee so you can drink it for a longer period of time.

In closing try some of these suggestions and let me know how it turns out what worked and what didn’t I’d like to hear the results.
