Very overwhelming couch.. Not sure what curtains will go well?
My boyfriend has a very large sectional sofa. It’s brown microfiber and dark brown/black leather.. It has the loose throw pillows and is a beautiful couch but I have no ideas as to what I can use for other decorations and colors. I was thinking dark red or a sage colors maybe? And what fabric/style of curtains would I use? Our living room won’t be very big, it will have a stone fireplace with a wooden mantle and he has three tables (one coffee, two side tables) AND a large ottoman. I’m going to try to talk him into putting away one or two of the tables and the ottoman though. I’m just stuck I guess!

This is the exact couch, pictured with the ottoman. His tables (I think) are wrought-iron with almost a ceramic tile like top (with gray/green colors)
I think you’re on the right track about minimizing the amount of furniture in the room. Clear out the clutter. If this is the couch I think it is — it’s more of a natural modern, right? Clean lines, blocky but natural tones.
Anyway, maybe it would help to start with an area rug, and then work from there. I’d keep most of everything neutral, don’t try to add too many colors (unless you want to paint the walls a punch of color, like a rust or olive green or plum or something dramatic, even a navy).
If you go dark on the walls, keep with light neutrals elsewhere for balance.
Maybe go with black iron accents in curtain rods, light fixtures.
Think of texture, material, pattern — think of it going with the style of the couch and room/house. If this couch is modern, keep in with modern patterns. If it’s simply traditional, then allow for traditional patterns in your accents.
I hope this helps. And remember, less is more.
