What tea would you serve at an afternoon tea baby shower?
I’d like a variety of different teas for all tastes but I have no idea where to even start. We’re in England so where can I get some loose leaf tea, I don’t want to just stick a tea bag in a mug.
Funny, my mum & aunts just had a baby shower tea. And they used English breakfast, which I think is batty, but they never asked me.
I would pick teas that are fairly forgiving for water temperature & brewing times, because such events can get hectic. So try to avoid Darjeelings, which are quite finicky.
For the main tea, I would stick with Earl Grey. It’s got a little floral lilt, it’s easy to get, everybody knows it.
And for others, let’s say:
-Ceylon Orange Pekoe
-Lapsang Souchong, a smoked tea with a distinctive aroma
-Keemun, the “burgundy of teas”
-Yunnan
-and then some herbal infusions– chamomile, rooibos red tea, rose hips tea, etc etc
They’ll all brew between 3-5 minutes in just about boiling water, so it’ll be simple to pull off. If you introduce green & white teas, all of a sudden you have to use different water temperatures and brewing times, which turns into a headache. And all these teas easily take milk & sugar, so all’s well on that front too.
They’re all blacks, but they have different tastes & aromas. And all of these teas are pretty widely available. Twinings sells them loose in tins.
