Would loose tea leaves from China (green & black) have harmful levels of pesticide?

China seems in general to have big problems with chemical contamination and pollution. Some tea they market as organic, but one wonders whether organic means the same to them as to us in the USA.

Doesn’t really matter which country it comes from, chemical contamination and pollution are the same world over. If you think that farmers in the USA and Canada are following the rules and not using banned chemicals etc. you’d be wrong. A person in my family is in horticulture, and there really aren’t many inspections going on and mostly it’s complaint based. I’ve talked to farmers who have never had an inspector on their farm in their 40 years in business. But, if it is from China and is certified by some organic certifying agent from your country that you trust, then I’d say that it’s OK. Otherwise, who knows. Even organic farmers have all sorts of different standards and methods.
