weight of dry food from 40 lbs bag?

I just bought a 40 pound bag of dry dog food for $25. What is the cost per 3 cup serving?

It depends on how much a cup of dog food weighs.

Edit: I happend to have a scale and some dried cat food handy. I weighed out 1 cup of cat food. It weighed 3.5 ounces. So, assuming that the density of cat food and dog food are the same, this is how you figure it out:

1) A 40 lb. bag of dog food weighs 640 ounces. This is because there are 16 oz in 1 lb. 16 x 40 = 640

2) Since 1 cup of dried dog food weighs 3.5 ounces, this mean that 40 lb = 182.9 cups. (640 divide by 3.5 = 182.9)

3) $25 divided by 182.9 cups = 14 cents per cup

4) 14 cents x 3 = 42 cents per 3 cup serving (of the brand of cat food that I use, anyway.)

There you go. Pretty simple.
