Kava has no effect on me…Why?

I have tried capsules from the local vitamin store, low and very high doses. Also purchased 84% kavalactone capsules from kona kava farm and tried in small and very large doses.. nothing. And finally I have Kona kava farm’s kava root powder and i tried preparing that in many ways in small and big doses and again nothing, not even placebo effect.

Not every herb works for every individual. I don’t know what you are taking it for but will be something else you can try as an alternative. Morever, kava kava has been linked to hepatotoxicity in laboratory studies [Pubmed].

If you are looking for something “tranquilising” you could try ;emon balm tea, valerian capsules [smells awful for a tea], passiflora incarnata extract [could be in combination with oat straw or alone], st johns wort, or magnesium combined with calcium [1:2] as a citrate instead. Plus there are preparatory combination formulas such as Kalms.

If you are on medication then talk to a doctor first before taking anything herbal. Some herbs may interact with some medications. It is particularly important that you do not take anti-anxiety herbs with anti-anxiety medication as there might be a doubling up on the mechanism or pathway by which they work and that could be potentially dangerous.
