What’s the best way to clean old lacquer?
I have this shoddy old table that needs some serious cleaning. Most of it is finished wood, but the top has a pannel of something I can’t identify that seems to be coated in some sort of soft lacquer (although as far as I know, it could be 30 years worth of jam…). It’s filthy, and has a bit of a tea-towel stuck to it from having a hot teapot set down on it.
I have the following cleaning supplies (these are all I use in my house):
dish soap
castille hand soap
baking soda
white vinegar
borax
liquid laundry detergent
I have soft sponges, towels, and scrubby sponges.
I can’t run to the store, so I’ve got to use something I have on hand. It doesn’t have to be absolutely perfect, but I want to get it as clean as possible with as little damage as possible.
How should I attack this table?
I don’t want to strip it, I just want to clean it.
