Whats the best cheap place to stay in Antigua Guatemala?
First place im going to when I get there.
There are tons and tons of hostels in Antigua. Like someone said, they are on almost every other corner. They start at around 9 USD a night, however, it is basically a closet, with a bed and MAYBE a nightstand. The doors in the hostel i stayed at were locked with small padlocks and you had a tiny little key. You had to share a bathroom. One of the other ones I stayed at was like 15 USD per night for a queen size bed and my own bathroom and shower. TINY room though.
If you are staying for an extended period I might recommend contacting one of the spanish schools about getting a homestay. If it’s just a week or two, it would be cheaper to stay in a hostel.
Some other places that I’ve heard are nice from reliable traveler folk are: the Hotel Villa San Francisco (1 Ave Sur 15, tel: 832-3383) and La Casa de Santa Lucia III (6 Ave Norte 43A; no phones). Just make sure that you get into town by early afternoon to get the best rooms.
