Cone Coffee Filters, are they pretty much standard?

my dad has a 12 cup gevalia coffee maker, but it seems he uses the wrong filter since he has to fold it over, and wet it, etc etc. Are there cone filters for these type of makers?

That page doesn’t say what size cone filter to use, but Gevalia only sells size #2 and size #4 cone filters. I would imagine that your dad’s coffeemaker uses a #4 cone filter, since it’s a 12 cup size (#2 is smaller, for a 4 cup maker, I think).

It sounds like he’s picked up a pack of #6 cone filters, I did that once (intentionally, since they were marked 25 cents, probably because not many home coffeemakers use that size), and cut the top extra length off, and there was no need to wet them to use them, or fold them, once the excess was cut off. Get a pack of #4, and use that as a template to cut the #6 filters to the right size, they’re perfectly usable once you do that. Or, just cut off about an inch from the top, until you get to the right dimension that fits inside the basket. Cut all of them to the right size at one sitting, that way they’ll all be usable right out of the box.

And remember to get #4 cone filters next time.
