Is is safe to put olive oil in my eyes for chronic dry eyes?

I have tried everything , eye gels , eye tears , eye drops and I eat omega oils everyday. My eyes get so dry that it hurts to open them.
The doctor prescribed gel and it does not work either. I am desperate.
It hurts so much, I have fibromyalgia wich I was told it is a symptom. But I need relief. What can I do ? can I just safely use olive oil on my eye balls
