Is it necessary to descale an old-fashioned teapot?
I searched the questions already answered and found instructions for descaling an electric kettle which has an element. But I use an old-style teapot, the kind with a handle which you just fill with water, place on the stove and wait for the whistle. Is it necessary to descale a teapot like that (which has no element)? If so, how?
You bet. This is what I’ve always done:
The first thing to do is to half fill the kettle with a 75/25 mixture of white vinegar and water. Allow it to sit over night. In the morning pour the vinegar mixture out, scrub the inside of the kettle with an old (clean) toothbrush an rinse again. Boil some water in it to get any remaining vinegar smell or taste out and it is sparking clean and ready to go.
