Un-ground, decaffeinated, whole coffee beans. How do they get the caffeine out without crushing the bean?
If it happens in the roasting process why not to all roasted beans? Also, how much of the caffeine do they have to get out in order for the FDA to let them call it decaf? Yeah, just one of the things I woke up wondering in my “Hazeltons Delight” (personal favorite knockout cocktail coffee) stupor this morning.
I think there are newer modern methods but the original way of decaffeinating coffee was to soak the beans in water for a long time (sorry, not sure how long but at least 10hrs). This resulted in (I think) 2% caffeinated coffee and a lot of highly caffeinated water, which can then be used for energy drinks etc.
