cuisinart coffee filters water
I have a Cuisinart Grind & Brew coffeemaker. What I make comes out tasting flavorless & acidic. Any tips?

I use the one scoop of ground coffee to one cup of filtered water ratio. I don’t buy cheap Folgers or Maxwell House brand, either. I drink it black, but I don’t have the same problem when I go to Starbucks or a restaurant. Any valuable coffee-making secrets would be most helpful.

You can try adding a tiny pinch of salt and/or chicory to the coffee to cut down the acidic taste. Chicory is commonly added for a classically mellow New Orleans type taste. There are certain coffees with chicory already added, but I like to add my own at will.

You can try flushing out the coffeemaker with white vinegar in the water to remove hardwater or mineral build up inside it that may be fouling the taste.

You can also switch to different coffee beans. If you want a bolder flavour, get some dark roast ones or Arabica beans. The best coffee IMHO is Jamaican Blue Mountain, but it is not cheap. One time I tried a cup of Guatemalan coffee and it nearly ripped my head off… wayyyyy too strong for me… but you may love it. Just remember that the longer coffee beans are ground and exposed to air, the more flavor they tend to lose. Your machine is a “grind & brew” for BEANS, not preground… designed to grind the beans right before adding the hot water. Sure you can use ground, but you are sacrificing taste. Make sure you store any ground coffee in AIRTIGHT containers to seal the flavor in. Reduce the time between grinding the beans and actual brewing for maximum flavor. And remember that any brewed coffee that sits on a heat source for longer than 20 minutes is considered BURNED and gets tossed out at most restaurants. Hope this helps!

And BTW, I have boycotted Starbucks ever since they charged the New York firemen $130 for bottled water during the 9/11 terror attacks. I wouldn’t drink their coffee if they gave it away!
