Can you freeze a starter for Amish Friendship bread for later use?
Tomorrow is day 10 and I plan to bake up several loaves of the friendship bread (add a layer of cherries or blueberries in the middle and it makes the best coffee cake ever). I would like to keep a starter for myself, but don’t want to be baking again in another 10 days. If I save it with a vacuum food saver, will it freeze OK for a few months (3-5) until I want to make more bread?
Absolutely. Just make sure when you take it out, you wait a day before doing day 1 to let the yeast reactivate and once you do, remember not to stick it in the fridge, let it touch metal til you bake it, or cover it.
