How to carry big food trays?
I’ve been working at this restaurant for about two months now. I’m mainly a hostess but I bus tables about once a week. On my first day of bussing i tried using the big tray (now this tray is huge) to bus tables because all of the other bussers use it but ive found myself spilling things over and such, so ive moved to the small trays which im very comfortable with. I see most of the other bussers lift it up and put some of the weight on there shoulders but i tried that and didnt succeed in balancing everything (im usually carrying lots of drinks and coffee thermos and mugs and a few plates [[the servers usually try and prebus]] I find my boss getting irritated with me using the small tray beacuse obviously it takes longer but I’m terrified of spilling things over again in front of or on people. Now im a very small girl with not much strength but I know i could do it if i had the right advice. so Advice?!
well first off its all about the prebus
when people are done eating you should take as many plates and stuff off the table to make it easier and so that the customers don’t have to sit with the dirty plates
someone answered screw what your boss thinks and don’t listen to that because in restaurants you need to be a good and fast worker
or you will be out of a job
second is that you are new and it takes allot of practice so don’t worry
try asking another bus person to explain to you and help ,most people will help
the way it is done is that you stack plates and everything on tray but anything top heavy you need to turn to side so not to have it spill
then bend down to level of table put one side of tray on shoulder up to your neck and then place hand under center to other side of tray and stand up
i wish you luck it takes practice but you will get it
