How did it get to the point that people could sue companies for things such as…?
Two examples:
Hot coffee THEY are holding, or having got in the drive through, on themselves and getting burned.
Smoking and getting respiratory disease – blaming the makers of cigarettes when THEY made a choice to smoke.
Who authorized such laws that clearly give money to people for making stupid choices?
Is it per court system, or is there a general law making this an option to do ?
What are your thoughts on things like this?
It’s a function of “victocracy” where victims rule. We recognize that some people have suffered injury…but rather than accept that sometimes bad things happen…we seek to relieve their suffering by “finding” the person that can make them whole (deep pockets) and assigning a percentage of the blame to them.
Blame (cost) is determined by who can pay not by who actually caused the problem (i.e. bad decisions). But look at any package and see things like “not for internal use”, “Do Not stick this in your ear”, etc…just means someone tried and the lawyers are now trying to be specific to protect them against this insanity.
