What wall color would go well with mellow yellow kitchen counter tops? It’s a coffee-shop themed room.?

We recently bought a house with yellow counter tops. We received an estimate on replacing them and it’s completely out of our budget. So we’re going to run with it. It’s a coffee-shop themed room as we collect large coffee mugs when we travel and we will have them hanging all around the room. The yellow counter tops also have back splashes made of the same material that go up behind the cabinets so basically the entire room looks mostly yellow. The one empty wall (with no cabinets) is currently white, the floor is linoleium that looks like large grey and white ceramic tile, and the cabinets are refinished golden honey oak (although they are very pretty in ther original wood state, they sorta clash with the yellow counter tops so we’re open to changing that, too). I have little to no decorating sense so if you have a suggestion for wall color, cabinet color, or even if you know of a GOOD decorating book or free site that you would recomment, I’m all ears. Your local library would have a wealth of books on home decorating. The basic theory is ‘complementary color’ – I’m including that reference below. So the theory says use purple. If that seems too gutsy, you can take the easy way out, and paint the wall in cream. You might be able to achieve a pretty cool effect with purple walls and cool cabinent hardware (maybe country-ish knobs that have yellow and lavendar flowers on them). Layer the curtains with both yellow and purple/lavendar panels. Straight out of southern living .
