Tips on starting an independent coffee house in Chicago?
Id like to start a coffee house in chicago. I have a book and im working on a business degree. Any other tips for me? What should I focus on learning? Whats the culture of Chicago like, any resources? Any encouragement or warnings for doing this? ANY information would be helpful.
First and most important do your resurch. Go to where all the coffee shops you know and take time to learn about what is around them. The class of the neighborhood. The quality of the stores around. The amount of foot traffic passing the shop.
There are so many things to look fr before you oven think aobut opening. What would be the rent for a building or the price of on to buy. General over head such as hired help and utility bills and also the licences and fees you will have to pay.
This is just a little part of it and if you are a student then you must be aware of this and also know that most small businesses fail within the first year. Most of them fail because they did not do the resurch before opening.
You will also need a goodly amount of money either your own or borrowed and there is another cost if you borrow the money.
If it is your first venture then look into a franchise of a chain of shops. They will help you learn and believe me they do hot want any of their shops to fail. \
After you learn and graduate then you might consider going on your own.
