Can you boil whole coffee beans?

Just a curiosity. I accidentally ordered beans from green mountain, and had to go buy a grinder. Not a big deal, but I wondered if boiling the beans would have produced something similar to coffee.

Coffee beans must be ground in order to make coffee. Coffee is brewed, meaning that hot water flows through the ground coffee beans, extracting oils and flavors on its way. In the case of espresso, steam extracts oils and flavors when forced through very finely ground coffee. Grinding the coffee beans provides more surface area for this extraction.

In other words, no, you need to grind the coffee beans.
