How do I convince people at work to stop using styrofoam cups?
I work w/ around 1000 people and the company provides coffee, filtered water and styrofoam cups. Most of the employees are 25-35 year old city dwellers yet they are still so insensitive to their own environmental impact that they use hundreds of these cups every day.
I am posting signs on the coffee makers that say, “In an effort to reduce costs and environmental waste, please consider using a personal coffee mug and a water bottle instead of the foam cups, thank you!”
Also, each break room has a sink and company provided dish soap so there is no reason these people couldn’t quickly wash their own cups.
The sign is good. You could also write a letter to a company supervisor giving a cost analysis of how much company money they waste buying styrofoam cups for their employees. Companies hate seeing how much money they waste.
As for what theacrob said, a.) the recyclable cups will still end up in the trash and b.) if you have time to walk to the coffee machine, you have time to squirt a few drops of dish soap in your cup and wash it out.
