Whats happened to Starbucks (coffee enthuasiasts only!)?
I’ve recently started getting my daily latte again after a few years of giving up coffee, but whats happened to Starbucks?
It used to be a cool, trendy place, the place to be seen getting a decent coffee but now they seem to be full of old people with grey hair and glasses, dithering over which coffee to get and paying in loads of small change. The music is always some old fashioned jazz rubbish and the decors now looking really dated.
Cafe Nero seems to be the chain with the ‘beautiful’ people now. Modern, cool cups, great decor and 2 shots in every coffee.
How could Starbucks have let things slip so much?

what i know from over 40 years of watching consumer trends, Joe, is that fashionable places never last. they’re in a for a year or four and then they’re gone.
gone isn’t what a major corporation wants to be. gone doesn’t help the landlord keep paying for the building [he owes a big mortgage on it].
so, enjoy Cafe Nero now. It, too, will be gone by 2012.
