‘Normal’ coffee grinder or burr grinder? (for filter/cafitiere, not espresso)?

I want to buy a grinder to make filter and cafitiere coffee. If cost wasn’t an issue would you recommend a ‘normal’ grinder or a burr grinder? Any recommendations for a specific model?

Burr grinders are available in both manual & electric models. The main reason people buy hand-crank models is that they feel the electrics go so fast that they create heat that can damage the beans. Personally, I don’t believe it makes enough of a difference. Besides, how many people want to start the day spending 15 minutes manually grinding coffee beans? Another reason they buy them is for show, not actual use. My mother hates them because her father made her grind his coffee so it would be ready for him when he got up.

As to “burr or blade”: Burr all the way. Blades pulverize beans to uneven chunks (causing uneven/bitter extraction). A quality burr grinder will make even particles that will produce a much better tasting brew.

I do own a manual grinder for Turkish coffee since I only grind 5 grams at a time & an electric that grinds that fine can be well over $500.
