Why do Americans say British food is rubbish when all you have is burgers?
when you lot have burgers and chips. only burgers and chips. you cant talk, we have loads of different food like fish and chips, shepherds pie, English trifle, cottage pie, yorkshire pudding loads more. Our food tastes good, the only thing Americans have original is burgers and chips, instead of criticising our food on tv try looking at your own food rather than saying our food is tasteless.
It is a Chip thats what we call french fries here and since when were they French? they are chips not french fries!
The idea that English food is of poor quality is a myth that has been around for a long time. The French have done more than anyone to promote this myth, mainly in an attempt to promote their own cuisine… and especially since the end of the second world war.
In fact, English food has a long history of excellence and imagination. 200 years ago, the cooking done in the castles and mansion house up and down the country had a variety of dishes containing hundreds of herbs and spices that would have baffled a Frenchman. We used a variety of meats that no other national cuisine in the world matched. Indeed it is true today that while we talk about British Beef and British Lamb… our supermarkets are still stocked with pork, veal, venison, pheasant, guinea fowl, duck and of course liver, kidneys and hearts. We also still use suet for our fabulous dumplings. Something my Indian friends think is one of the worlds great undiscovered foods!
In relation to America… I am a frequent visitor to that country and I can tell you that America has fantastic food, even though it is largely known for poisonous garbage like KFC. I often stay in Chicago and of course there are the usual McDonalds, Burger King etc everywhere. However… locals always go to the numerous ‘bakeries’ that are on almost every street corner. There you can get gorgeous fresh baked breads and cakes. Fantastic soups, flans, pastries, warm wraps and better coffee than Starbucks! It will cost you about a dollar or two more than Maccy D’s… but it is fresh delicious.
The fact is… America and Britain have two of the worlds most diverse and rich cuisines, and have had so for many years.
