What is the best coffee maker?
I can’t seem to get it right when purchasing a coffee maker. I just purchased a Capresse #455 10 cup digital coffee maker/burr grinder combo from Costco. It has a thermos and is supposed to stay hot for hours, but it doesn’t even stay hot for 1 hr., and I don’t even use the burr grinder (I have a Barista grinder which works just fine, so this is a feature that is not important to me). In the past I’ve bought Krups, Cuisinart, Braun, all of which tastes bitter. Please HELP me in choosing one.
The best way to make coffee is with a French Press. The 2nd best way is via the Milita method wherein a filter is placed in a cone over a cup and the ground coffee is placed inside and you pour boiling water over and it drips. It is less invasive that a typical coffee maker.
By the way, I have a Krups with a thermal carafe. After I bought it I found out it was rated the best coffee maker with an insulated carafe by Cook’s Illustrated magazine but the carafe doesn’t keep the coffee hot, the alarm shrieks, and the float that measures the water doesn’t work. I’ve been through about 6 coffee makers in 2 years and haven’t been satisfied with any of them. I have a French Press, but I don’t have the proper grinder (Burr) to grind the beans exactly correctly.
