Stainless Steel coffee pots?
Hi All, This is one for the coffee fanatics here. Do stainless steel coffee pots add a flavor to the coffee? I’ve used an SS vacuum coffee mug once or twice and found that it seems to add a tang to the coffee that’s in it. The reason I’m asking is that I’m considering buying a Bodum French Press in either stainless or glass. Anybody got an opinion?

Whenever you buy a SS coffee brewer, it’s recommended to make a waste brew. This will place a coating on the SS container to protect the flavor of the next batch. To clean the container, just rinse with warm water & wipe with a cloth or paper towel. I bought a SS Moka pot and the directions included with it actually told you to do this. It is even more important on aluminum models as they affect the flavor more than SS versions. Plus it protects the aluminum from corrosion.
Making a dead/waste brew is the only time I’ll ever use preground coffee, if I have any around.
Every now and then you’ll have to properly wash the pot. Just make a new waste batch to prime the pot after it’s clean.
It’s kind of like curing cast iron pots before you use them.
