Does anyone know about acids ?Only the smartest persons in chemistry can answer the question below?
j. How should a farmer treat soils which have become acid from the overuse of commercial fertilizers. (You must name a substance that is to be used)
i. Sodium carbonate is used to treat bee stings, while vinegar is used to treat wasp
stings. What can be deduced about bee stings and wasp stings from these treatments?
h. Over a periodic of time, a white build up of material occurs on the inside of tea
kettles. This can be easily removed using a dilute solution of ethanoic acid (vinegar)
During the cleaning, bubbles of gas are seen.
a) Suggest a name for the white deposit in the kettle.
b) What is the name of the gas that is produced?
c) If vinegar is unavailable, suggest one substance found around the
home that can be substituted.
j – pour ammonium hydroxide solution over the soil to neutralise it
i – bee stings are acidic, wasp stings are alkalies(base)
h – Sodium carbonate
a = a lime stone
b = carbon dioxide is produced
c = lemon juice or orange juice or lemonade
