First step for literary agent?

Hello,
I am in the process of editing six novels I hope to publish someday. 2 our memoirs, one is a series of short comical essays think Chelsea Handler, a young adult, romance, and romantic comedy beach read. I also have a sarcastically written self help book and coffee table book complete. WHEW……..
Ok next job, getting an agent, publishing my work so I can break into the industry and start a career in writing which is my life long passion and dream.
I have my queries written, but so far have only received the standard response they send when they are not interested. What should I do now? I know it is a very hard industry to break into. I live in New York City.
Thank You!

MMI22A,
Um yeah … before spending too much time writing a useless answer, maybe read the question correctly . I don’t want to be an agent, I need one. I’d much rather be in Costa Rica writing novels than a bright office reading someone elses work :}

Sounds like you’re doing everything you can. Just keep researching agencies and send your queries in following their specific guidelines, which you can find on each of their websites. The other thing is to network. Online writer’s groups geared toward what you write and even local writer’s groups meetings, and writer’s conferences where you can make appointments with agents. They will often throw tips out in the air if you’re looking. I found my agent through an online group when one of the members mentioned that my agent was actively looking for YA romance, which I just happened to have just completed. I was able to send the right query at the exact right time thanks to that one little tip.

Good luck,
