Will my UK voltage appliance work in North America?
I have a Krups GVX2 coffee grinder from the UK and I want to bring it with me when I move to Canada.

The specification written underneath it states the following:
220-240V ~ 50/60 Hz 110 w
I think I understand that this appliance therefore runs off the full voltage of the electricity to supply and is a very hungry appliance.
If I were to use a straight plug pin converter would it just run very slow and ineffectively? I have noticed various step-up transformers, would this do the trick?
I know they sell this coffee grinder in North America, but I don’t know the electricity requirements of native models.
Any advice would be much appreciated. In an ideal world I would want to replace the plug completely when I arrive.

You cannot run this in the US with just a different plug adapter. You need either a step-up transformer or an active power converter.
Some things will run on one but not the other. If you really need to bring it to the US, go to Radio Shack when you get there and they will supply you with what you need.
Better still, just buy a new coffee grinder when you get there, like $10 in Wal-Mart (cheaper than the coltage converter).
