Can someone help me with this mathematics concept?
OK just say for example I was told that farmer billy has 100 metres of fencing, I know that using differentiation can be used to find the maximum area enclosed by the fencing.
Just say for example, the heat radiated by a teapot which holds 1L of water loses the following heat:
(heat convected from top)+(heat radiated from sides) how do I find out the dimensions to find the minimum heat loss, do I integrate it instead?
Since heat transfer by radiation is governed by a different coefficient of heat transfer than convection, you would need to set up an equation for total heat transfer based on the two modes of heat transfer and then differentiate to find the critical values.
